True Winter
Also called Cool Winter.
True Winter is the coolest season of all. It suits people with unmistakably cool coloring and strong natural contrast — cool-toned skin, hair in ash, espresso, or black, and eyes that stand out sharply against both. Clear primaries look natural on a True Winter; anything golden or muted fights the face.
There is no beige here and no brick. True red, cobalt, optic white, and true black set the tone, and icy pink and cool violet add the feel of winter light on snow. Leaving warmth out entirely is what makes it look so poised and graphic.
If the palette feels right but slightly too stark, its sister seasons are the natural next stops: Bright Winter adds a touch more sparkle and warmth tolerance, while Dark Winter trades some iciness for depth.
The palette
Wearing it
Anchor everything to true black, optic white, and pewter grey. This season wears the starkest neutrals in the whole system beautifully, so let them do the structural work.
Pair one jewel tone with one stark neutral for an outfit that always lands: emerald against optic white, or true red with true black. The higher the contrast, the more at home it looks.
An easy place to start: a true black maxi like this ASOS Design sculpting maxi dress (an affiliate link: we may earn a commission if you buy through it, at no extra cost to you). Add one jewel-tone accessory and you are done.
Skip orange and warm gold; this palette never goes there. Reach for true red and icy pink instead when you want heat.
Sister seasons: Bright Winter and Dark Winter.
