Light Summer

Light Summer suits light, cool coloring — blond to light ash-brown hair, fair skin with cool or neutral undertones, and light eyes in blues, grays, and cool greens. Deep or intense color overpowers this coloring; the palette works by staying as light and fresh as the person wearing it.

These are pastels, but not sugary ones. Cornflower, rosewater, cool lavender, seafoam, and pale lemon are all cool and clean, closer to sea glass than to candy. The deepest shade is soft navy.

Light Summer touches the spring family at its border, which is why its sister seasons pull in two directions: True Summer deepens and cools the palette, while Light Spring keeps the lightness and adds warmth. Many light-coloring people find themselves choosing between those two.

Build on cool off-white, blue grey, and soft rose beige, and let soft navy serve as the darkest piece you own. Next to most wardrobes, yours should look light.

Pair one pastel with one pale neutral: cornflower with cool off-white, or watermelon pink against blue grey. Two light pieces together is the season’s signature, not a compromise.

Skip black and heavy earth tones, which sit on this coloring like a shadow. Reach for soft navy and rose red when an occasion calls for something stronger.
