Privacy Policy

ShopYourHue is a small content site. We don’t sell anything directly, and we collect as little as possible. You can browse the whole site without signing in. This page explains what information is involved when you browse, when you use the photo color test, and when you sign in, and what choices you have.

What we collect

Signed out, we don’t know who you are. Google Analytics counts your visit (see Analytics below), but your choices on the site stay with you. When you pick your color season, that choice is saved in your own browser’s local storage so the store remembers it on your next visit — it stays on your device. The same goes for the items you save, the items you’ve looked at, and small preferences like dismissing the cookie notice.

If you email us at contact@shopyourhue.com, we’ll have your email address and whatever you wrote. We keep that correspondence so we can reply and follow up, and we don’t share it or add you to any mailing list.

The photo color test

The color test can work from a photo of your face instead of the seven questions. It is optional: the questions give you a season without sending anything anywhere, and the photo test asks you to confirm that you are 18 or over before it starts.

If you use it, your browser makes the photo smaller and sends it, with a few of your answers (such as whether your hair is its natural color), to our server, which passes the photo to Google’s Gemini AI service. Gemini describes the coloring it can see, and your browser works out your season from that description. We don’t save the photo, write it to any file or log, or keep any copy of it once the answer is back. Google handles it under its paid Gemini API terms, which say it is not used to train Google’s models. Google may keep it for a limited time to check for misuse of its service.

So that the test can’t be overused, we count how many photos each visitor sends per day (three at most). We don’t store your internet address (IP address) for this; we store a scrambled one-way code made from it that can’t be turned back into the address. The count only covers the current day, and old days’ counts are wiped automatically.

Signing in

Signing in is optional, and the site works the same without it. The one thing an account adds is that your palette, your saved items and your recently viewed items follow you to your other devices instead of living in one browser.

You can sign in with a password, with a link we email you, or with your Google account. If you use Google, Google tells us the email address on that account; we never see your Google password and we don’t receive anything else from your Google account.

An account holds four things: your email address, the palette you chose, the items you saved, and the items you looked at, with the dates. Nothing else — no name, no address, and no payment details, since you never buy anything from us. Those records are held for us by Supabase, the service that runs our database and our sign-in, and they are not shared with anyone else or used to advertise to you.

While you’re signed in, your browser keeps a sign-in token in local storage so you stay signed in between visits. Your password is never kept in your browser. Signing out clears that token and empties this browser of your palette, saved items and recently viewed list, so the next person to use the computer doesn’t inherit them; your account keeps its copy for the next time you sign in.

You can delete your account yourself at any time. Open the account panel from the top of any page, sign in if you aren’t already, and choose “Delete my account” at the bottom. It asks you to type the word DELETE first, so it can’t happen by accident. That removes your email address, your palette, your saved items and your recently viewed list, and it empties this browser of them too. It can’t be undone and we keep no copy. If anything goes wrong, email contact@shopyourhue.com and we’ll finish it by hand.

Affiliate links and cookies

Product links on ShopYourHue are affiliate links. When you click one, the affiliate network we work with, Sovrn Commerce, may set a cookie in your browser so the retailer knows the visit came from us. That’s how we earn a commission on qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you. These cookies are set and read by the network and the retailers, not by us, and the network handles them under its own privacy policy, available on its website.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used: how many people visit, which pages they look at, how they found us, and roughly where they are (country or city) and on what kind of device and browser. It works by setting cookies in your browser, and the information goes to Google, which handles it under its own privacy policy. Google says Google Analytics does not store your IP address. We use these reports only to see what’s working on the site; we don’t run ads on ShopYourHue, and we don’t use Analytics to identify you.

Third-party sites

When you follow a product link, you leave ShopYourHue and land on the retailer’s site, which has its own privacy policy and cookie practices. We don’t control what happens there, so it’s worth reading their policy if you have concerns.

Children

ShopYourHue is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we’ll delete it.
